Abstract: Nutrition information survey and analysis of a part of the Bulgarian food products available in the Plovdiv trading network have been carried out. Over 700 labels of popular foods falling into various groups such as meat products, dairy produce, bread, sunflower oil, mayonnaise, margarine, bee honey, biscuits, waffles and sweets, fruit juices, soft drinks and baby foods have been inspected.
Over 75% of the inspected labels have been found to not meet the requirements of the relevant regulations as the largest percentage – 90 approx. – involves the meat products which fall into the most hazardous product category.
Several of the more severe violations have been analysed as the cases have been classified in accordance with the adequate regulations nomenclature.
The survey in concern gives a good idea about the current situation with the end user oriented Bulgarian food labels.
